How to calculate a bulk discount
- Enter the quantity ordered.
- Enter the price of a single unit before discount.
- Enter the discount percentage for that volume.
- Read the subtotal, the discount amount and the final total.
Setting volume discount tiers
Subtotal = Quantity × Unit price. Discount = Subtotal × (Discount % ÷ 100). Final = Subtotal − Discount.
Volume discounts work because larger orders cost less to serve per unit: one shipment, one invoice, one conversation. Set your tiers so the discount stays below the per-unit saving you actually make.
Check the margin at your deepest tier before publishing it. A discount that looks generous at the top of a pricing page can be loss-making once payment fees and delivery are included.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the standard discount calculator?
This one starts from a quantity and a unit price, which is what you need for bulk orders and quotes. The standard calculator takes a single total price.
Can I apply two discounts at once?
Apply them in sequence rather than adding the percentages. Two successive 10% discounts give 19% off in total, not 20%.
