Cookie Policy
Last updated 2 October 2026
This page lists every cookie and similar technology Really Cool Online Tools can use, grouped by what it is for. Our privacy policy covers how we handle data more broadly.
The short version
The tools themselves set nothing. Every tool runs inside your browser, and the files and text you process never leave your device, so there is nothing to store about them.
What applies where you are
Privacy law differs by country and, in the United States, by state. Rather than guess, we apply the rule that fits where the request comes from. We work this out from the approximate location our hosting provider attaches to the request, and we store only which of the three rules applies, never your location and never your IP address.
- Countries that require permission first. Nothing optional loads until you answer. You get a banner on your first visit, and refusing is one click, exactly like accepting. This covers 33 countries: the European Economic Area under the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive, the United Kingdom under UK GDPR, Switzerland under its revised Federal Act on Data Protection, and Brazil under the LGPD.
- US states with a comprehensive privacy law. These give you the right to opt out of targeted advertising and of the sale or sharing of your personal information, rather than the right to be asked first. So there is no banner: advertising runs, and Your Privacy Choices in the footer turns it off on any page, at any time. The 20 states are California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia.
- Everywhere else. No equivalent rule applies, so advertising runs and the same footer link is still there if you want to change anything.
If your location cannot be determined, we apply the strictest of the three and ask you first.
Strictly necessary
One cookie, rct_consent, which records the choice you made here so we do not ask again on every page. It holds the categories you allowed, the date and a version number, and nothing that identifies you. It lasts 180 days.
A second short-lived cookie records only whether your request came from a region where we ask for consent. It stores a single word, not your location or your IP address.
These two cannot be switched off, because without them the site cannot remember your answer or know whether to ask.
Analytics
We plan to measure which tools are used and where people run into trouble. Like marketing, it starts off where consent is required first and on everywhere else. No analytics provider is connected yet, so right now this category sets nothing at all. When one is added, it will appear here before it goes live, and it will only run if you have allowed this category.
Functional
Reserved for remembering optional preferences between visits. Nothing uses this category today, so it stores nothing wherever you are.
Marketing
This site is funded by display advertising through Google AdSense. Advertising is not live yet. When it is, this category lets Google set cookies such as __gads and __gpi to serve and measure ads.
Whether it starts on or off depends on where you are, as described above: off until you allow it in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland; on until you turn it off everywhere else. Either way, turning it off means the advertising scripts are never loaded at all, so no advertising is shown and nothing is set. Every tool on the site keeps working exactly the same.
What we use that is not a cookie
Fonts are built into the site and served from our own domain, so loading a page does not call Google Fonts or any other third party. Our hosting provider records standard server request logs, which is server-side logging rather than a cookie, and is covered in the privacy policy.
Browser privacy signals
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information. Marketing stays off and advertising scripts are not loaded, with no action needed from you.
Changing your mind
Use the button below, or the footer link on every page, labeled Your Privacy Choices in US states with a privacy law and Cookie settings elsewhere. Turning a category off stops the scripts behind it from loading again and clears the cookies we can reach.
