JPG to PNG Converter
PNG is a lossless format, so converting a JPG to PNG freezes the image exactly as it is now. It will not recover detail that JPG compression already removed, but it guarantees that no further quality is lost through editing and re-saving.

Why convert JPG to PNG?
The usual reason is editing. Every time a JPG is opened, changed and saved again it is re-compressed and loses a little more detail. Converting to PNG once, then working in PNG, stops that decay.
Some software and platforms also require PNG specifically - certain design tools, favicon generators and sticker or overlay uploaders reject JPG because they expect an alpha channel to be available.
Expect the file to get considerably bigger. PNG stores pixels losslessly, so a 400 KB photo can become several megabytes. That is normal and is the cost of lossless storage.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?
No. Detail removed by JPG compression is gone permanently. PNG simply preserves the current pixels perfectly from this point onward.
Why is the PNG so much larger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless and stores full pixel data, while JPG discards information to shrink the file. A three- to ten-times size increase is expected for photographs.
Will the converted PNG have transparency?
The PNG file supports transparency, but a JPG has no transparent pixels to begin with, so the result is fully opaque. You would need an image editor to remove a background.
